Mandeville Marketing featured in Unlimited Magazine
Christmas is coming. What can I give my staff that they’ll actually like?
’Tis the season to go shopping. To get a feel for what your staff might like for their annual Christmas present, Scott George, Mandeville Marketing and Promotions director, suggests putting out the feelers at staff meetings or around the lunchroom table. Keep in mind the type of industry you’re in and the sort of people it attracts.
George advises buying the same or similar gifts for all staff and spending the same amount on all. Buying cheap gifts for one lot and pricey presents for another could incite an attack of yuletide jealousy between co-workers.
Employers increasingly want to give a gift bearing the company brand, but if you’re going to do this, George says make sure it’s discreet. “The last thing a staff member wants is something that’s over-branded.”
Gifts relating to sports or outdoor activities are often gratefully received as are family and leisure-related items like picnic sets and wine accessories. In our increasingly health and safety-conscious times, company branded car emergency and first-aid kits can also be a practical idea.
There is a trend towards buying gifts for employees that actually end up being used by their kids — think cool IT-related gadgets like MP3 players. Gifts often range in price from $10 to $100 but remember … it’s the thought that counts.
